U Boutique Hotel
25 Frederick Street, Te Aro, Wellington 6011, New Zealand
Review №1

My review is 2years late but I will never forget how wonderful this place was. We had been on a long drive down to Wellington from Auckland to attend a funeral and had arrive at 4am in the morning the funeral was at 10am. There was no other place open that would take our booking that early even when we were willing to pay extra they would not allow us to enter our room early until I tried U Boutique Hotel. They were so welcoming and UNDERSTANDING over the phone and quickly set us up for that morning. Our room was nice and warm and the faciality was nice and clean the staff was so helpful, kind and so respectful. I would highly recommend this place to anyone that is looking for a warm and friendly place to stay and we would definitely be booking with you guys again.

This is far and away the most excellent value for money place I’ve stayed in.I booked it right at the last minute when my original hosts came down with tummy bugs. The hotel is super clean! It is very nicely styled. The staff are genuinely warm and kind.I think all the rooms have shared bathrooms (which are clean and stylish).Sadly there is pile driving and building nearby which supposedly ends in July 2021. Fortunately this wasn’t the case when I was there, but forewarned is forearmed.I slept like a log.

Review №3

Was very grateful to PJ for accommodating us on such short notice. The place was warm and cozy and pet friendly! The service was great and would fully recommend

Review №4

No notification of building work prior to booking, found ear plugs and note in room, 7.30am start to earth works not quite the relaxing stay that I planned. Would have rebooked but Wellington busy with Beervana.

Review №5

Absolutely gorgeous room and deck, spa was amazing and the starry night couldnt have been more perfect!

Review №6

Excellent hotel in prime location. Customer service from PJ the manager was second to none. Spa room was fabulous! Continental breakfast was so handy. Rooms were clean and tidy with amenities to make ourselves a hot drink. Would 100% recommend. Will be the only place I will choose to stay when Im Wellington. Thank you so much for your five star service.

Review №7

The positive vibes at u boutique hotel is evidence its a good placeWe slept good unlike oaks hotel which is fill of negative energy we could barely sleepEven though its a smaller hotel we love it better then the flash oaks hotel

Review №8

Oh my gosh! The service here was absolutely welcoming! Very quiet street for city accommodation. Even go so far as to back our car into their driveway to get our luggage loaded in. We done U Boutique Hotel! Will definitely visit this hotel again. Thanks.

Review №9

Terrible! $263 gets you a 2x2m cell with no elevator, no ensuite, no running water, no aircon, no nothing! Ran away to a decent hotel and didn’t regret a dime of the double spend.

Review №10

Booked my stay last minute due to plans falling through and was very pleasantly surprised. What a lovely little hotel! Room was clean and comfy beds. Shared bathroom quite modern and clean with great shower. On a quiet side street but still really close location to Courtney Place. Would definitely stay again!

Review №11

Not a bad spot! Last minute booking, a little bit loud with doors opening and shutting but great spot. Clean and a good vibe. Would stay again

Review №12

Comfortable room and bed, check in was simple and easy thanks!

Review №13

Great location, friendly staff, clean rooms and great for wheelchair users.

Review №14

PJ is a hotel wizard, highly 100 %recommend this homely comfortable and welcoming place

Review №15

A wonderful place to stay. Perfect for us. We arrived late, check in was automated and easy. Room was spotless, bed super comfy, bathrooms clean and great showers. Staff are super helpful and polite. I’ll be staying here again.

Review №16

Lovely hotel. great price , friendly staffs, spacious room, very clean bathroom, Perfect location. Everything was wonderful

Review №17

Great location and a very good price for very cosy room. Opted for the shared bathroom which was nice and clean. Well thought out concept.

Review №18

U Boutique Hotel is a great hotel in Wellington! Its close to the city center (5 min walk to Cuba Street). Furthermore its extremely clean and the staff is super friendly. The room and bathroom was good too! Would book it again any time :-).

Review №19

Quaint little hotel but excellent location and a perfectly fine room with a comfortable bed. Friendly service too. And you cant argue with the room rate! Great for a quick getaway in Welly.

Review №20

Amazing little hotel in the heart of Wellington. Staff is extremely nice and welcoming, we even got an upgrade. Would definetly recommend (especially after staying in a couple other hotels here in Wellington) and I will definetly come back the next time Im in Wellington!

Review №21

Great Central City location, building has lots of character and a nice illustrative approach to branding extends to a colourful mural on the street front. Rooms include self-contained and shared-bathroom options. Staff are friendly and extremely helpful. Decor is pleasant. There doesnt seem to be much sound-dampening as a fair bit of noise comes up from the street. There is a cosy cafe on the ground floor with inclusive breakfast offered, although options are somewhat limited.

Review №22

A quirky and comfortable place to stay. It is in a convenient place for a walk around the shops and lots of eateries. Very welcoming and helpful staff.

Review №23

When we got to our room, it was nothing like the room shown on the hotels website or Expedia. The bathroom was not at all the same and very much outdated. The sleeping area was smaller and tired. Staff were friendly and did their best, but its very disappointing when you book a room online for an above average price and the hotel fails to deliver. Breakfast was nothing special. We expected better based on the high price, high Google ratings, and online photos.

Review №24

Great place to stay if you visit Wellington. everything is in walking distant. Is the hotel the four Seasons? No, but it is nice, clean, comfortable, the staff is helpful and friendly and most important: They truely deliver on what they promise! We will be back.

Review №25

Very nice and quiet boutique hotel. Not enough car park is a supplement cost. But very good location. Walking to everything in Wellington

Review №26

A wonderfully charming, small boutique hotel and excellent accommodation. Ideally situated in one of Wellingtons small, narrow streets, close to restaurants and transport. Easy to walk all around town from this location. The staff and owners of Gourmet Stay were really friendly, helpful and obliging. One of the reasons for booking this small hotel was the offer of off-street parking and I was grateful to be able to leave my car there for a period after checking out. The room had wonderfully comfortable beds. This 1920s era building has been refurbished by architect/owner Mark, with the steel retrofit support beams giving the space a slightly industrial look. The space was very comfortable with small kitchen, bathroom and attractive furnishings. The continental breakfast was excellent. I will definitely go back to Gourmet Stay next time I need accommodation in Wellington.

Review №27

Fantastic location within easy flat walking distance of Courtney place (Wellingtons event and dining district). Service was fantastic and friendly. Family room was nice - and rare to find somewhere supporting a family of 5! However found the walls between rooms rather thin with young kids, and amenities fairly plain

Review №28

Cute little place, friendliest staff and best location!

Review №29

I was apprehensive about the shared bathroom, but it turned out to be really good; clean, no queue to use it, even body wash / shampoo / conditioner are provided. The bathroom has both a shower and a bathtub. The breakfast was good too, and there are restaurants nearby as well. The room has a heater and was already warm when I got there, has a TV with free view and a USB input if you want to bring your own movies. Its also quiet, theres no disturbing traffic noise at night despite being in the city, and the staff were so helpful that they printed a document for me so I didnt need to go find a print shop.Highly recommended.

Review №30

At the beginning of my four months period in Wellington I first stayed at the Gourmet Stay before I moved into a flat for a short time. Fortunately my time in Wellington was way longer than first planned so I went straight back to Gourmet Stay. This hotel is so cozy and classy that in the end I spent two out of my four Wellington-months here. The rooms are bright, modern and very clean. Everyone is so friendly and enjoyable that I felt like being at home. The common room makes the whole place very social as I had more than one interesting chat with other guests about the latest Football results.Thank you for the great time here and I hope to come back really soon!

Review №31

Great little b&b, very centrally located not too far from all the Cuba st action and cafes and 10 minutes to Te Papa. We had the double studio +1 single which was on the ground floor and was just huge and very comfortable. The host was charming and offered to do our laundry and to dry it with no charge while we were touring the city so we wont waste valuable time just waiting for the machine to finish. Only downside was that we were awakened quite early every day by the noise of the garbage truck that had stopped next to our room, but maybe we are just light sleepers....

Review №32

Lovely and clean. However private bathroom was not in your room but rather across the hall that you needed a key to unlock. Also our room wouldnt lock and could not be fixed for 2 days. Never saw the mentioned baking that was supposed to be available all day with coffee in the lounge. Continental breakfast was lovely though.

Review №33

Great place. Very handy to Courtney Place but in nice quiet area. Very comfy bed and fantastic shower. Nice guy running the place and excellent breakfast.

Review №34

Great place to stay. Particularly awesome spa on the rooftop deck

Review №35

Great value for money if you dont mind sharing a bathroom. Locked myself out of my room but prompt assistance from the duty manager set me right. Cleanliness and housekeeping was top notch

Review №36

Average hotel

Review №37

Small but perfectly formed!! Great hotel, close to everything. Always try and stay here when visiting Wellington as it is hard to beat! Highly recommended.

Review №38

A lovely little place tucked away from the main drag. The room had a deck with a spa which I took full advantage of and the breakfast was lovely as well. The staff member was fantastically friendly; I would absolutely recommend this place!

Review №39

The young chap who worked as the manager was very kind and helpful. No lift to go up so be careful if you have luggages. No parking either. You have to use the streets paid parking which might not easily available. No 24 hours reception so make arrangements before you arrive. A simple breakfast available. Good value for money if you are individual traveller or a couple. Very close main shopping and happening streets.

Review №40

Comfortable beds, great breakfast, and amazing hospitality from Willem. Very helpful and knowledgeable info on where to dine etc. Accessible to Cuba street and close to Victoria University Te Aro campus. Would definitely recommend :)

Review №41

Customer service was outstanding for a returning stay - management provided an upgrade - made the difference for a much-needed sleep. Clean rooms and clean shared facilities. Good basic breakfast. Look forward to returning again!

Review №42

I liked the fairly simple setup that I stayed in. It was good value. The breakfast was good and the staff friendly and accommodating. The off street parking is a bit of a squeeze for a large ute thought, but doable.

Review №43

We stayed at this hotel in early March of this year for 2 nights. It was clean, well maintained and had excellent staff. It is not a typical hotel in a good way. Our room was small, spare and had access to the outside through a patio area. Perfectly acceptable. The breakfast in their on site cafe was simple but quite adequate The neighborhood was safe and interesting. You felt like you got a glimpse into what life in Wellington might be like for a local. It was easy walking distance to most everything. Most importantly, the owner and the manager, Willem, were both kind and personable. They were a pleasure to converse with. I encountered a minor (non-medical) emergency and they went above and beyond expectations to help resolve it. This is an establishment that we were proud to spend our travel dollars at. We hope to return. TJ & FG Albuquerque, NM, USA

Review №44

Cute, clean and cosy. Love it. Very convenient location! Would recommend this place :)

Review №45

NOT RECOMMENDEDBooked direct on their site & gave arrival time 8pm.Arrive wet, cold & windy night to unlit entrance with call button. Calls disconnect in approx 1min so 6 calls back to get them to find booking & give me unlock code. When get to room booked with private bathroom theres no private bathroom - one bathroom shared for the floor.Room & bed seem OK of a bit firm on the mattress but no lumps.

Review №46

Gourmet Stay certainly lives up to its name. Its the first place weve stayed in NZ that includes breakfast. Lucy makes delicious, fresh, baked goods in the morning. The rooms are extremely clean and well appointed. The hotel is so conveniently located within walking distance of practically all city attractions. There was so much to do and Mark and Lucy were such great hosts that we extended our stay from 3 to 5 nights. Cant say enough good things. Sue and John. Ontario, Canada

Review №47

Was a okay hotel had spa out on deck

Review №48

This is a lovely little place, centrally located, tastefully decorated and a very warm welcome was provided. The rooms can be a bit on the small side and there are stairs to navigate but if you keep that in mind this is a lovely place to base yourself in Wellington

Review №49

Always friendly, helpful, great service.... have been here many times over the years and will continue to come! !! Such a great location! !!

Review №50

Very clean & ideal for our short stay. Staff very friendly & helpful. Definately recommended.

Review №51

Nice little place with a great staff! Very affordable with TV and wifi

Review №52

Was a short walk to cuba street so that was nice but other and the guy that booked us in was lovely, the service hasnt been too bad the beds where lopsided very hard to sleep on, NO sound proofing beetween rooms so you could hear other patrons at all times, breakfast was 20 dollars a head but 2 of our guests didnt show up so even when one of my fellow guests asked for a coffee it was an extra 3 dollars on top of the 40 we where already out of pocket, crossaints where microwaved, and other food items where left out un protected, guy serving got drinks orders wrong so that was a little annoying. A few small niggles, powerpoint distributions where awful so people on bunks had no powerpoints close to them,

Review №53

Good location.

Review №54

Very conveniently located. Room was kind of funky (in a good way) and very well appointed. Excellent value for the price, especially considering it came with a nice breakfast.

Review №55

Loved the ambience! Great location. Delicious breakfast. Thanks.

Review №56

The manager was lovely, very accomodating to our needs (such as offering breakfast earlier and the availability of an off-street car park). The room itself was beautifully decorated and spacious, and the shared bathroom was kept in a clean and tidy state. Walking distance to some great restaurants and shops also, highly reccomend to those looking for a place to stay in Wellington!

Review №57

Fab location and awesome staff. Loved staying and cant wait to come back!

Review №58

Here for both work and a holiday with family. Handy to everything, very nice place.

Review №59

Great stay. Quiet. Great location. Excellent espresso.

Review №60

Dam good service. Awesome rooms

Review №61

My partner and I recently stayed here and found it to be excellent. The owners are great people, rooms comfortable, breakfast provided each morning and location within walking distance to busses and the Wellington CBD. Fantastic little B&B with affordable room rates. Would definitely recommend :)

Review №62

This little B&B tucked away in Frederick Street is easily my favourite of all the places Ive stayed in the North Island. As a solo traveller on a budget Ive been used to hostels and single rooms in hotels, but none have been so clean, comfortable, friendly, modern and inviting as the Gourmet Stay. Its also been rare to find the double whammy of both free (unlimited) WiFi and included breakfast, but this place has it all. And the breakfast alone is worth the stay - homemade muesli, yogurt, peaches, fresh croissants and home-baked scones and cakes. The owners make you feel at home from the moment you walk in the door, and many of the guests staying there have opted to stay longer than they intended, giving the whole place a familial feel. Tea, coffee and scones are available to guests in the evening along with the use of the café space at the front of the building. Although there are two shared hostel-style rooms, this is definitely more of a b&b - dont expect any parties or late night noise. In summary: highly recommended! I know Ill be staying here again when Im back in Wellington. :-)

Review №63

Great location, yummy breakfast and lovely service! A cute place with taste, very happy I found it:)

Review №64

Was a beautiful place to stay very nice continental breakfast. Awesome location.

Review №65

Staff are amazing, but the fact that the bathroom is outside of your room and there is no elevator... Also after 7pm there is nobody, see if you need assistance, you are on you own.

Review №66

Amazing value for money and the manager was a great host for our stay. Also, great location!

Stayed here for our entire time in Wellington and the staff were so friendly and accommodating that the experience could not be anything but great!

Review №69

Nice place to stay highly recommended staff are awesome

Review №70

Rooms are very small. It used to have bunk bed, separate toilet and on suite options, all with breakfast included and reasonably priced. Ever since the change of owners breakfast became extra and prices went up. Not a good value for money.

Very good hotel, the staff is very friendly, breakfast is included, parking is tight! The room was very comfortable and it was dawn! The wind is too big, and I have been worried that the signs outside the window will be scraped off.
