Bay Plaza Hotel
40-44 Oriental Parade, Wellington 6011, New Zealand

Review №1

Great place for the price to stay at. New world right across the road and a few eateries nearby. Parking is plenty on the backside but is paid separately. Sadly, no air conditioning here but a fan was provided. Entrance can be a bit tricky when first coming by car. Good view from the hotel. Otherwise fairly clean and comfortable.

Review №2

Nice room and amenities. Very nice decor. Super handy to town.I couldn't control the heating air con though it was really hot overnight.

Review №3

Fantastic Hotel. Very good service. Comfortable bed and spacious room. Staff were very helpful. Room service and food were excellent. Great views of the city too. Good access to public transport.

Review №4

Pros: New World supermarket across the street. 5 mins walk to Courtenay Place restaurants. Good strong and hot shower. Reasonably clean rooms and restaurant on site. Cons: rooms are basic and showing signs of age. Bed was sagging. No air-conditioning so if you are visiting in summer it could get warm there is a fan but windows don't open much so its hard to get fresh air in the rooms. Not enough power points to charge all your devices.

Review №5

I adore the old school style, and the views are awesome. It's not a typical 5 star but I have a bathtub in my room, try getting that in a newer hotel!

Review №6

Clean, comfortable and convenient, close to Courtney Place, Oriental Bay and Te Papa. Car parking available. Pleasant and helpful staff

Review №7

Walked in and the room smelt musty. On the booking it says free wifi. Got to the hotel and I was told I had to pay for any usage above 1 Gig per day. This place is dressed up for pictures and that is it!!!! I will never stay here again or make any of the staff stay in a place as bad as this. As I discussed with the young receptionist she blamed the hotels in Wellington for them having to charge for wifi. Poor service and poor quality hotel. I would recommend looking at other accommodation. Spend 50-100dollars more per night and get way more for your money.

Review №8

One of the better priced hotels I stay at in Wellington central, no AC which is a huge negative in summer, although the room is very clean for the slightly aged condition. Staff are always very professional, and overall vibe is good with reasonably quiet rooms. Having parking onsite with easy access to car is very good.

Review №9

Great view from our room. Clean spacious room and friendly service

Review №10

Always stay at Plaza when visiting Welly.Rooms clean tidy ..great shower..Fantastic location, either to walk into central city or just down to Courtney for buses. Lotsa eat houses close by too.Has everything we want. Well done Bay Plaza..ud83dude0aud83dude0a

Review №11

Pros : Good location, close to CBD ample parking, friendly front office staff. Tea coffee optionsCons:Very tired rooms, old furniture, very old linens, poor mattress quality, toilet and shower not impressive.Just good for one night stay.

Review №12

Very close to city amenities. Bathroom needed an upgrade. The room was nice. Lack of sound insulation in room, so much so, we had to ask neighbours to turn down their music and talk more quietly after 10pm. Even then we could still hear their conversations.

Review №13

Most people would not know this restaurant is exist as it is not on ground floor, and this hotel seems does not advertise itBut I found both it's food quality and dinning atmosphere are reasonable good.May go back again

Review №14

We have stayed in room 1106 for our marriage anniversary. It was not even upto standard cleaning in the room. Window sills are pretty dirty. When I booked the room online description described we are going to have single and large double bed however, we just had double bed which was pretty uncomfortable you can feel the springs when you lay down on bed. It was pretty muggiest night and room was pretty hot. I rang at reception to ask for fan and they have had none which is really disappointed for this hotel service. Attendant at reception asked if you are staying for another night he can arrange fan tomorrow. We ended up waking up all night and have had pretty lazy day next morning due to lack of rest. Wonu2019t recommend to book this hotel and will never ever come back to this place again. What a waste of money.

Review №15

Very handed to the night life the museum framer's market super market

Review №16

Reception Team were great but when we got to our room there was a large group of people enjoying a party with doors open and a lot of drinking. Hotel kindly moved us to a different room (smaller) so wasnt the end of the world.

Review №17

Location was excellent for the Conference that I attended at Te Papa Museum and for great walks. Very good restaurants, a big supermarket and the beach front were close by. Hotel was also a pick up point for day tours. Airport was within 15 minutes ride. Very good value for money.

Review №18

Room was good, had a nice meal in the restaurant.A little bit of difficulty with charging expenses as I needed to charge them to a credit card belonging to someone in our Wellington branch. However staff were helpful and this was resolved.

Review №19

It was ok. The bed was comfortable and the place was kept clean but the windows did not seem to close properly in such a windy city, the noise was a bit much at night. Other than that, all good.

Review №20

Clean, welcoming. Nice buffet breakfast. Good shower. Hairdryer in room.

Review №21

Great location. Lovely staff easy check in. We had a very short stay so didnu2019t get to experience everything the venue had to offer.A very windy night meant the windows whistled a lot which was not ideal but not a deal breaker.

Review №22

It's quite pricey for the considering the quality of the amenities. Looks like a very old hotel and could use some refurbishment. Wellington is a very windy city and the windows of the rooms don't help at all! It was so noisy plus there are bars and venues in the area which made it more complicated to sleep. And I was in Wellington for work!I suggest you check the room first to make sure that the windows and the noise won't be a problem for you.

Review №23

Great staff.they helped me with a cake I needed put in chillers. checked in over 2 hours early, was not a problem. security rang me late at night to say lights were on in my car.And I was able to leave car in carpark well after checkout.Nothing was to much trouble.Clean rooms, comfy bed and pillows.Great shower. If I had to find something to complain about,is no plugs nxt to bed...Great place to stay...

Review №24

Very dated but clean, tidy and knowledgeable, friendly staff. Good accommodation in walking distance to the heart of Wellington.

Review №25

Good hotel for stop over. Comfortable very clean well equipped and value for money

Review №26

Very friendly helpful staff. Great location, walking distance to most things

Review №27

Reasonable rate. Near restaurants. Easy to drive to. Refurbished interior. Comfortable bed. Will stay again.

Review №28

Close to town..lovely and clean..nice comfy bed..quiet. enjoyed our stay..will return.

Review №29

Staff/trainee that serviced us was unwelcoming, didnt say hi and didnt bother to explain extra expenses such as $20 for overnight parking on our vehicle nor explain where elevators or our hotels room eas located. I enjoyed my stay once finding our hotel room and was lovely scenery from our room

Review №30

Bit overpriced for what we got. Got super hot during the night. Staff were great though

Review №31

Very efficient and helpful staff. Rooms always clean and tidy. The restaurant menu was limited but what we had was amazing beautifully presented and delicious. Great place to stay.

Review №32

OK so there was room service but they just folded the blankets and chucked it on the bed, they never cleaned the windows and the counters, they were disgusting. It said free WiFi but only one gb of it a day. Like seriously, that's one hour a whole entire day and it was freed after a certain time. The toilet had no toothbrush, or toothpaste. And we were there for three days so it was disappointing.

Review №33

Couple of weeks ago we had my bros graduation dinnerFood was ud83dudd25, staff were so helpful and everything was awesome, FOH to the kitchen staff were all friendly making us all felt like we're at homeGreat people, great food and great locationVery stunning harbour viewWe will be back...u2764u2764

Review №34

Awesome stay. Great location and surprisingly quiet. Room was spacious, modern and comfortable. Would highly recommend staying here.

Review №35

Its not clean, its old and the bed was terrible and the service is not good either. Put the location aside and Im not sure I can say anything good about this place.

Review №36

Great service for an overnight stay. Lovely attentive reception staffLove the views. Top locationWould stay again. Thanks

Review №37

Walking distance to the shops, Te Papa n the Oriental Bay

Review №38

Super nice hotel, great view of the harbour and amazing central locztion. Unfortunately, we had our car scratched in the hotel car park by another customer but the hotel staff was super helpful.

Review №39

There is free wifi but u only have 1gb if it umlimited free wifi then it will be a perfect, otherwise the rooms, foods, showers is clean and in good condition.

Review №40

Great location, Step out side to the waterfront. Handy to food, drinks, Shoping and the beach.

Review №41

Clean, tidy and comfortable bed. Excellent value for money and inner city accommodation. Bathroom a little tired but still very clean.

Review №42

Handy location. Big supermarket over the road which was convenient. Room wasn't flash but ok. Big long hair in bed. Dirty cotton tip on bathroom floor. Pretty good water view. Staff were expressionless.

Review №43

Better than expected! Not flash, but kinda neat and clean :)

Review №44

Very good.A solid 3 star hotel. In walking distance to The Papa, Cable car etc

Review №45

Nice view of the harbour. Easy access room and close parking.

Review №46

Stayed in a parking facing room. Basic but cosy rooms with comfortable beds. Parking is not free but I have never found it hard to find a spot whenever Iu2019m staying there. Walking distance to shops and the Bay which is great if you are here for sightseeing. All in all a highly recommended hotel if you are visiting Wellington.

Review №47

Overpriced for what it is. Although close to the centre I found that the money I paid was too much for what the hotel had to offer.

Review №48

The place was very good to stay, my family has enjoyed the very bit of stay.

Review №49

The rooms are nice and tidy. We wouldn't ideally stay there again unless looking for budget accommodation. Only thing that we didn't like was there was no air conditioning, no sky TV only freeview. And we booked a room with a view and got to see New Worlds roof top :( .The made up our room everyday and when we checked in it was a lil wait before getting attended too. Parking was $20 a day and it was in the open, no secure parking :( .

Review №50

I have sent my complaint to the manager in email. I expect this to be addressed immediately. In the mean time I want to warn others of your extra charges without reasonable explanation made on my credit card. BE AWARE THIS HOTEL WILL CHARGE RANDOM AMOUNTS TO YOUR CRDFIT CARD!!

Review №51

Very nice central location, short walk to Waterfront and restaurants.

Review №52

Good location close to courtany place. Rooms are looking a little tired

Review №53

I loved the view from my room. Also the shower pressure is excellent.

Review №54

Great views, tidy comfortable beds and pillows. It is very dated but I'm not unhappy with the room. Food is well above average. Centrally located.

Review №55

I paid nearly $600 for a 3 night room at Oriental Parade and I expect the best but wasn't impressed with the room..its very mini bar or water..the bathroom was the worst part..its the 21st dont expect shower curtains room service..had to pay $60 more to park my car at the hotel wi fi..I had to pay $10 to access..its ridiculous..I would never recommend this hotel to anyone

Review №56

Value for money. Excellent room.great room

Review №57

The hotel itself not bad. It served its purpose which was a bed to sleep in while visiting Wellington. Room was ok, quite cosy actually. Didn't try the restaurant as we felt it was overpriced for what was on offer. One concern that I would raise is that the back entrance from the carpark, anyone could walk in off the street and they are straight in where the rooms and elevators are. No swipe card etc needed to get in or use elevators. That's a concern.

Review №58

Great location. Customer Service was the best! Barman were fabulous! Would definitely go back !

Review №59

When in Wellington, a place you can look out for is Bay Plaza which offers a bit of the old world charm including a playlist which the Manager plays reminding you of melodies from a bygone eraThe hotel is old but well maintained and whenever the Wellington wind threatens to rattle its windows, somehow the Plaza pulls thru and offers comfortRooms are average sized and it is well locatedFood is standard and there is a supermarket open till 11 pm right across which is an added bonusRestaurants are located within a 5-7 min walk and many other shopping and recreational centres are within walking distance

Review №60

Staff are great, location and parking great. Rooms are getting very dated however, our room overpriced due to graduation, certainly not a $175 room. Rooms ok with dockets or deals.

Review №61

Best value pub in town Reception too slow

Review №62

Have been going here for many years our favourite in Wellington

Review №63

Convenient to shops. Great location. Good customer service. Room needs an upgrade with no kitchenette and shower head is from 1950's, also no AC which is not good. Would be great to have water bottles if there was no mini bar.

Review №64

Very quiet and comfortable room. Just noisy from the wind against the window....but that's mother nature for you. Awesome view....I was on the 5th floor, would have been amazing on the 11th floor time....

Review №65

Good comfortable hotel, nice view, very good bed.Was no aircon.

Review №66

Was lovely to be upgraded to a suite. Room was lovely and quiet despite being on the street and the 2nd floor. ud83dude04

Review №67

Visited them over easter weekend. Wonderful place and could walk everywhere. Overall neat and good service.

Review №68

Great location, walking distance to everything and very handy with New World across the street. Fantastic view, good service. Pretty good stay for 5 nights. Not flash, but I was happy enough.

Review №69

Once again a great place to stay. Clean comfortable great location friendly service and excellent food.

Review №70

Clean and tidy, a amazing views over the waterfront to the city.Excellent value.

Review №71

Some of the furniture in the rooms is straight from the 80s. Beds look new. Bathroom doesn't appear updated. Continental breakfast in the restaurant was adequate.

Review №72

Great shower, good location. Asked for a quiet room, request granted alas got a noisy room. Didn't sleep well.

Review №73

Amazing place to stay, I was on level 10, stunning views over the lower city and harbour. Supermarket also straight over the road. Having a restaurant on site is great, lovely helpful staff in that area as well. I planned to have a main and desert, but couldn't. My simple fish and chips (kiwi classical dinner) with fresh salad was huge, and superbly cooked. I struggled to finish it and had no room for what I'm sure would have been an equally stunning desert. I waddled to the elevator and lay like a beached whale watching tv for the rest of the night. 10/10 will stay there again.

Review №74

Really good

Review №75

Great location and having a car parking option is a bonus!

Review №76

We took up the week package that came with breakfast. I was here about 10 years ago so it was a repeat visit. The hotel has been around for a while but is comfortable and does not too u201clooku201d aged except for the bathroom. Our room was adequate for the weekend. The breakfast either cooked or buffet was very good and we both enjoyed it. We also ate the evening meal in the restaurant and the meals were very good. The staff were very friendly and we did not have to wait too long even though on Saturday there were two large groups.Parking is the reason we return here. There is a large parking area right behind the hotel with easy access. It does cost $20 a night which is on the lower end of parking in Wellington on a long weekend.Location is great for access to the harbour walks and Te Papa. There are also local markets close by.The only negatives we have is that the walls are very thin. With a school group in the next room we could hear every word. People outside in the hallway sound like they are in the same room. Thumping from above can be a pain. After a complaint the staff were only too happy to move us to another floor which was better due to no one next door. But still noisy from above. The rooms are warm. Great in winter but there is no way to adjust the heating and we found it simply too hot during the night. A drop in a couple degrees would be good. There is no fridge in the rooms. They will give you fresh milk but of course only good for making a drink at the timeIt might take us another 10 years to return but will still consider the hotel if we were to return

Review №77

Location was good but the cleanliness still needs to be improved

Review №78

Good central city location, local attractions & eateries in easy walking distance.

Review №79

The dinners were that good we stayed in and ate. Great meals, thanks.

Review №80

Close to cbd and access to ferry terminal, good parking

Review №81

Such a central location! Comfortable room, good amenities and friendly staff.

Review №82

Older type hotel. Close to everting

Review №83

Good rates, helpful staff

Review №84

Staff are friendly hotels OK everything is acceptable for my one nights stay except for the walls aren't sound prove you can here people flushing the toilet people having showers ect its not a quiet room

Review №85

Good price and location, walking distance to town and attractions

Review №86

Nice hotel, pleased we chose it.Twenty dollar a night parking charge.

Review №87

Great location next to waterfront next to new world near shops restaurants handy location , nice clean rooms everything you require . Excellent value for money .

Review №88

Conditions are satisfactory and provided you are higher up, a good outlook. No tea-making facilities in the room.

Review №89

For a two person booking we had -2 cups, 1 plate, 1 glass Light out in bathroom

Review №90

Clean and comfy hotel near Te Papa museum (spectacular!) and Wellington waterfront. Older hotel, could use some upgrading of facilities, but clean and a good staff and overall an excellent stay there. Wellington is a most fascinating and delightful city (a mini-San Francisco in many fun ways), with a beautiful harbour and waterfront and much to explore and enjoy. Excellent and varied restaurants abound, and the hotel is well sited for all that. And be sure to spend time at Te Papa!

Review №91

Staff are awesome

Review №92

Nice hotel with all the amenities and off street parking provided. Good service at reception and in the restaurant. Close to Te Papa and only a few minutes walk to central Wellington. Would stay here again.

Review №93

Clean and good equipped rooms, good service and not so fast from city center. Had two quiet and relaxing nights there ... ud83dude0a

Review №94

Overpriced for the quality you get, hair in my bed and shower. Water pressure was the only positive thing for me.

Review №95

Not very modern. Most surprising there was no air conditioning in the room at all, I asked if this was the case for all rooms and they said yes. No real option in hot summer weather when the windows only open the tiniest of bits! Room service was good, and general cleanliness acceptable. It does feel like it needs a makeover. The doors had just gotten swipe cards so maybe that is a beginning of modernisation?

Review №96

As usual great standard so clean & staff obliging. Lovely touch with the fruit & chocolates. Awesome

Review №97

Great stay ! Friendly staff great location easy parking. Will stay there again ! Room was very warm tho needs air con.

Review №98

The hotel itself is excellent. Great location. Affordable but on this visit the weather was so hot and the afternoon sun caused the city facing rooms to be very uncomfortable. Had to ask for a fan.

Review №99

As per previous reviews: location is fantastic close to central city and Te Papa and with classic Empress movie theater just a short walk up street a few doors down. However as per many comments read previously, rooms require an update, and specifically maintenance (our shower bar nearly came off wall with water shooting out of all but shower head-managed to avoid a plumber rescue and let staff know it needed immediate attention). Also, during any renos , a more appropriate sink option (higher set spout/deeper bowl) needs to be considered so that kettle can fit under spout and be filled without half emptying again while trying to get it out of sink. Air con needs to be reviewed, as our room was quite warm and not sure we had means to adjust temps. We were only there one night, so this hotel sufficed, but would only stay again on a discounted rate. Our room faced street as per our request, with great views of city and harbour. The windows can be opened with secure stays...though one of ours was broken so we kept it shut for fear of flying sideways and shattering window. The Restaurant on 1st level above ground level with wall of windows to same views made dining pleasant for watching the world go by...or in our case, during our buffet breakfast, a cavalcade of dignitaries in limos with police escorts (both motorcycle & car) at front and back. Oh, our stay included a continental brekky but with surprise $10 discounts offered at check-in, we opted for that plus cooked breakfast.Overall, hotel staff were very friendly but management would be wise to ensure an investment in a serious upgrade to rooms or at least fix broken items. Potential to have this as a well placed accommodation is definitely there. Would recommend for short stays only.

Review №100

Good clean accommodation at a great price. Staff were great.
