Kings Garden Cafe Orakei
228 Orakei Road, Remuera, Auckland 1050, New Zealand

It is such a bold move to maintain a café near all the competition, including the original Bird on a Wire and Palmers Café Greenfingers. Despite its location, this café is not only very successful, but also very nice. The service is amazing, the food is high quality and the prices are reasonable. Yes, the children near the little play area outside can be loud, but they just add more to the charm of this place. I cant wait to visit again soon when the sun is shining.

Excellent coffee and I love the cooked menu - great portions and delicious! But the best bit is the caravan full of kids toys and the trampoline!! So easy to take the kids here when they can entertain themselves!!

Review №3

Love this spot, great food and coffee. Outside seating can get very hot as it is inside the nursery but would be great in winter. Inside seating is ample and comfortable. Staff is friendly, will be back often!

Huge shout out to the team especially to Leanne and the Manager, Kaith! I organised a baby shower for my job for a bunch of us ladies and from the first email they were very accomodating and allowed me to choose a menu style that suited the team. Answered all of my emails and queries quickly too.Yesterday arvo we celebrated the baby shower and honestly have no complaints at all. The food was delicious and considering that there was 22 of us eating (5 different food options too), we all got our meals within 10 minutes of the first meals being served. Quality wasn’t compromised either considering how many meals had to be made in a short time span and the presentation for each dish was pretty. The chefs made gorgeous big pink and blue cupcakes for each guest to eat and they let us make a huge ruckus while playing our crazy games haha! We were in the cafe during closing hours which made it even more special because we got the entire cafe to ourselves. My biggest thanks to the team! I’m so glad I reached out and decided to go with you guys. Would definitely come back for just brunch or to even host an event here again ❤️❤️❤️

Nice coffee here, food cabinet looks appetizing, Friday 25 September 2020.

Review №6

Great service and food. I had the tandoori quinoa salad which was very yummy and my husband loved his poached eggs on toast with creamy mushrooms and homemade hash browns

Review №7

This place is new and the food is absolutely delicious, one of my favourite places in this area. A unique experience dining in a kings plant barn, but definitely worth it for the food.

Review №8

Good coffee and food. Looking at other reviews you cant please everybody, but IMO this place way better than the wishy washy offerings from other cafes in AKL.

Review №9

Service is very good. Coffee is ok. My cure is too salty.

Review №10

The coke came with a frozen glass, but was warm. Fries were from Agria potatoes but served with aioli. I asked for ketchup but got tomato sauce with. No salt and pepper and no 🍴 luckily Im okay with using my hands.

Review №11

This use to be very good but since Kings took over it has gone backwards fast. Used to at least one a week, often more but after my last visit where the food was raw and cold I have given up. Need to find some where else now.

Review №12

Super service, great food, fab prices and great location, seating inside or out. We will definately be back!

Review №13

I had decided not to go this cafe again, ther eis simply nothing much in the cabinets.(as you will see my note below) However freinds were going there and to join them I reluctantly went there too. When I arrived they were waiting at the door into the cafe saying that there is nothing much in the cabinet so they were going to Palmers but were jsut waiting for me to redirect me.KINGS !! this was around mid day. NO FOOD at lunchtime ? You need to rething your business method. Several people were walking away at the same time as our group of 6.Edit : please read previous review below -lovely freindly staff. But was there at early lunch time and there was not much food in the cabinet. When I asked if they would make up a sandwich (of which there was only one small club sandwich and no others, the answer was to point to the one in the cabinet. There were 3 of us.This is a gem of a place, but there has to be plentiful food to choose from. We cant come again and find that there is really nothing to eat other than order and wait for something far more expensive to be cooked. thanks for listening to customers views, because there werre only a handful people there most tables vacant - at lunchtime - and this is a lovely place and would be full if the food was better organised. thanks again for listening to customers.

Review №14

Thanks for a fabulous breakfast bun - loved it and I so appreciate your extra effort and amazing customer service! I was there before you opened and you were all very friendly and helpful and made this especially for me. Thanks!!!!!!

Review №15

We had a family lunch here, weather was shocking but we managed to stay dry. The staff were friendly and brought us a heater to keep us warm. A pleasant environment for kids with toys and a play caravan but most of all good food!

Review №16

Deliciousness in a bowl for lunch. Salmon salad labneh bowl. Nice and light and tasty. Arrived promptly with follow up service for beverage checks etc. Great place to meet for lunch

Review №17

Very friendly and helpful staff. Indoor and outdoor space. Blankets provided if its cold out. Dog and child friendly. Attached to garden centre.

Review №18

Had lunch there today. Ordered cheese & onion toasted sandwich...(as almost nothing in the cabinet other than slices). I received my toasted sandwich without any cheese but loads of onion and a side salad! Why a salad? Also ordered a chicken sandwich and we waited too long for this. The pre-occupied waitress eventually came to clear another table and when asked where the chicken sandwich was * (that we were NOT asked if we wanted toasted). She went back to gossip at the counter. I ended up having to go up to the counter to ask again where it was. I was then given the sandwich, toasted, and i returned to our table. My guest was happy to eat the sandwich otherwise i would have complained. No apology for it arriving after i had finished some of my awful sandwich either. Have eaten there a few times and usually great selection of food and good service. Today was dreadful. Wont be back.

The cafe has changed hands, and while there were loads of staff on on a Sunday at 10am, there was a complete lack of service. Waited chatting at an outside table for 10 minutes before being told that they no longer do table service. Staff were having to come out and yell the names of coffees and food to try to find people. Lots of tables left uncleared. Crates seem to have been attached to the rafters for birds to nest in. Our table and us were showered with sparrow droppings. The food was ok. Really hope the service improves as this was a fantastic place for a weekend brunch.

Review №20

Nice food

Review №21

Food was great and fast despite being very busy. No complaints but if you dont like crowds, the number of people moving around and through the eating area can be a bit distracting.

Review №22

Great place and the team of staff are lovely. Even better is there is a kids play area and the outside cafe is dog friendly. Always enjoy coming with friends and family with or without dogs. Somehow I dont understand why some grumpy old people go and sit at the outside cafe area and complain about dogs barking and kids playing. Stop being so rude to dog owners and kids. Go somewhere else if you dont like how great this kids & dog friendly the cafe is!

Review №23

Now in their new site. Nice food. A couple of vegan/gluten free options of mushrooms and a chocolate tart. Service is generally good.

Review №24

This place is family friendly. A caravan packed with toys kept kids busy in the covered open space while we could relax and sip our coffee. Food is of good presentation and packed with flavour. Staff were very helpful and attentive. Cafe manager was proactive looking after us even during peak hours. Facility is quite new: changing table is provided at the toilet. Pathway is designed for anyone on wheels. This place can be very full at lunch time over weekend.

Review №25

I loved the orange cake, the coffèe tasted great, I got them to put a shot of caramel inside, my large cup, incidentally I would also recommend the KG cafe on their prices, they were at least $2 dollars cheaper on each item I ordered, and their staff, smiling and friendly. Hot dayum deliciousness.

Review №26

Relaxed outside school holidays. Good coffee, pleasant service. Could be a little cold in winter..

Review №27

Beautiful setting, friendly staff, great coffee! What else could I asked for? Will definitely go back!

Review №28

Great selection of plants available, not the cheapest but it has a cafe and other stores around to make it a one stop shop.

Review №32

Great location and setting, top quality coffee and food, and friendly staff. A great end to a walk around Orakei Basin and a welcome addition to the neighbourhood.

Review №33

Disappointed in choices: wasnt able to get first choice of sweetcorn fritters as they werent ready according to chef.

Review №34

Not enough food (scones, savories after 12.30 pm.) to order

Review №35

Food and coffee are great. Has a really nice atmosphere and customer service is pretty good. Fantastic place to come with the kids. Prices are a touch high but worth it.

Review №36

Over priced on food and they take your food when you take children to bathroom as door is to heavy for them to open .so if you are a single adult with young children you will come back to your food gone. Toy area a good idea. So good luck.

Review №37

Great cafe and love the Push the Boat Out big breakfast. Kitchen closes at 2:30pm though but cabinet food and drinks are still available.

Review №38

The food looks great and tastes even better, the coffee is superb, the setting is trendy with unique decor and tableware... its a great cafe.

Review №47

Nice cafe, coffee was good and a play area for the kids.

Review №48

Very disappointed I was refused a beer at 3.45 pm due to the manager not being on-site apparently. Aside from that its a nice place.

Review №49

Review №50

Gorgeous spot, great food and relaxed vibe! Well be back 👍👍

Review №53

Good selection of food, staff friendly,

Review №54

Good lunch place

Review №55

Food and atmosphere are great. However some of the prices DO NOT represent value for money unfortunately. For example $6.50 for a small handful of fries I think is a bit excessive Garden Cafe. Yes potatoes have skyrocketed in price but geez be reasonable!
